Radio ENRG [LIVE] Talk, Tunes, Tales, Talent
Hello, I’m Anna and I’m a MA Journalism student! I grew up in Ireland (in a seaside town beside Belfast!) and I’ve been studying in Scotland for about four years now. I’m one of the four hosts for the ‘Head First’ podcast, and I’m really excited to begin writing for ENRG lifestyle this semester too.
When I started the journalism course, I knew I had a love for writing. That is still my main passion, but on top of this, this year we’ve also had the chance to experiment with other mediums, such as radio. I’ve learnt a lot in a short amount of time, and I’ve now also taken an interest in something that was (…still kind of is) a bit less familiar to me. It just goes to show how there’s so many ways to communicate an interest in the world around you…there’s such a range of platforms now that ALL offer/provide something unique and important. So, I can’t wait to build on my writing and explore broadcasting as well.
Being part of a podcast where we test out different mental health practices is great for lots of reasons. For one, it gives us a chance to share our thoughts and connect with other students in a very reachable way. Moreover, I’m sure I’ll personally learn a thing or two by trying them! (Plus of course, there’s nothing better than chatting with Beth, Lauren and Veronica.) I think there’s something very intimate and refreshing about streaming people having a casual conversation… you get a really niche speaker/listener relationship, which is why I myself like podcasts. It’ll be cool to be on the other side of things. I also swim and read a lot. When my friends and I aren’t in uni, we enjoy exploring Edinburgh as much as possible (this is no mean feat – I feel like there’s always an infinite amount to see and do here)… you’ll probably hear us bring this up a lot! I like learning languages too – I know Spanish because I lived there for a year, but I’m also trying to learn a bit of French and Irish in my free time. I hope you’ll have as much fun listening to our podcast as we’ll have making it!
